Tajikistan is enhancing its capabilities in CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) safety, security, and safeguards to address regional threats, including biological risks that have become more prominent due to the rise in global pandemics and potential bioterrorism threats. However, the country currently lacks advanced biological detection and characterisation equipment which is crucial for detecting and analysing pathogens and bioagents at a molecular level. The absence of equipment limits the ability of the regional CBRN center to conduct rapid and precise identification of biological threats.
Consequently, the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Safety and Security Agency is requesting international assistance for the donation and training related to modern analytical equipment for biological agents at the molecular level, including next-generation sequencing technologies.
The overarching objective of the assistance request is to establish Tajikistan's role as a leading regional hub for biosecurity and CBRN preparedness in Central Asia. Equipping the centre with new biological analytical equipment and new generation of sequencing technologies will contribute to:
• Rapid and accurate detection of biological threats (e.g., emerging pathogens, bioagents).
• Enhanced regional collaboration on CBRN threats, especially biological risks.
• Strengthened national defence and public health systems, mitigating biological hazards and improving outbreak response times.
