The Russian Anti-Plague Research Institute (Microbe) of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) offers an online course comprised 10 online educational modules including ‘Standard Operating Procedures’, which contains step-by-step instructions for 17 microbiological diagnostic techniques, in accordance with the biosafety rules and norms.
The issues of contamination and autopsy of laboratory animals, working in biosafety cabinets, emergency response when working with pathogenic biological agents, as well as specific questions on epidemiology, microbiology and laboratory diagnosis of extremely dangerous infections (plague, cholera, anthrax, brucellosis, tularaemia) are covered in these modules.
Each topic in the course includes:
- List of knowledge and skills which will be acquired;
- Theoretical sections developed, in accordance with the latest scientific and technological achievements;
- Legal documents;
- Audio and video educational material (photo-, audio- and video- data);
- Plans and methodical support for the practical trainings; and
- Tests to monitor acquired knowledge and skills.
The training course also includes a mechanism for assessing the participants training level in the fields of epidemiology, laboratory diagnostics and biosafety. It also allows to create and edit database of tests in 3 languages (Russian, English, French), create and update database on the specialists trained (specialities, countries, institutions), perform testing, including remote testing, in different modes (self-testing, trial testing, final testing), and make reports with the analysis of testing results.
