The Implementation Support Unit (ISU) of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), in partnership with the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), is pleased to announce a Fellowship for Scientists in the Peaceful Use of Biology and Biosecurity. This Fellowship forms part of Norway’s offers of assistance in support of Article X of the BWC: https://bwc-articlex.unog.ch/offers/2026-fellowship-scientists-peaceful-use-biology-and-biosecurity.
The fellowship is open to early-career scientists from OECD/DAC list of ODA recipient countries and will take place at ICGEB laboratories in Italy, India, South Africa, and at the ICGEB Regional Research Centre in China. Fellows will receive hands-on training in life sciences and detection and response to biological threats.

- The application guideline is attached hereto and is also available at the above-mentioned link. Applications should be submitted in accordance with the guidelines.
- The deadline for the submission of applications is 31 March 2026.
- States Parties are requested to inform the BWC ISU, by means of a note verbale, of their endorsed nominee(s) for the Fellowship.
- Selected candidates for the fellowship will be notified in early June.
- Fellows are expected to begin their fellowship no earlier than September 2026. The exact start date will depend on the approved project proposal, the fellow’s availability, the hosting laboratory, and the completion of all necessary logistical arrangements, including visa, accommodation, and travel.
Please note that sponsorship will be provided to a maximum of 20 selected candidates.
