BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:
Experts with APHIS’ International Services program work with foreign government officials and industries to enhance their animal and plant health infrastructures overseas. Through training and expertise, we help partner countries identify and reduce agricultural pest and disease threats, strengthen emergency response preparedness, apply science to address animal and plant health trade issues, and improve the safety of agricultural trade between our countries. APHIS International Services International Technical and Regulatory Capacity Building receives requests from APHIS posts overseas for subject matter expertise and training. Requests cover a wide range of topics, such as veterinary epidemiology, regulatory processes and policy, wildlife management and surveillance, pest risk assessment, biotechnology, laboratory diagnostics, transboundary animal diseases, and many other aspects of animal and plant health.
TYPE OF ASSISTANCE:
International capacity building is central to APHIS’ safeguarding work. Enhancing the ability of developing countries to use new or improved practices or technologies in their agriculture systems leads to sustainable improvements in animal and plant health worldwide and reduced risks to American agriculture.
